Married Life
Haven't posted for a while for several reasons, all of which involve laziness on my part. The nearest I got was some wedding shots as that involved far less effort than actually thinking of something to say.
The wedding (20th May 2005) was a success for several reasons - the bride turned up, the guests all seemed to have a good time, and very few people drank so much that they made an arse out of themselves.
Jen and I only went on a short honeymoon as I'd already taken all my holidays to entertain the visiting relatives (annual leave here is cumulative, so I have now accumulated another two weeks or so of leave since then). We went up to Maleny, which is up near the sunshine coast. Great scenery and national park and things, but we took the opportunity just to veg out and have a break. The cabins are all nestled in a forest so even though the closest neighbours are only about 30 metres away you'd never realise. Maleny is on a big bunch of hills in the middle of a plain, so from the top you just have an uninterrupted view to the sea which is about 10km away or so. I obviously forgot the camera so no pictures.
Since then, just been the usual routine - working, Jen's been doing some band things, and getting bigger. The boy spends his days kicking her liver and spleen, and particularly seems to go mental when she's playing in the band by kicking her instrument.
Midwinter here so although mostly blue sky and warm in the sun it's a little too chilly to sit out on the balcony at this time in the morning. Reclining on the couch instead, while the big pregnant one sleeps. I have a cold (actually just a runny nose) and tried all sorts of concoctions to stop it (mostly due to the fact that I had to keep excusing myself while talking to patients yesterday to blow my nose) and the antihistamines meant that I slept from about 7pm last night. Fortunately not while in the car, but it does mean I've been up since about 6am.
Jen's sis Lizzie had #2 (Thomas Clifford Aitken) at the start of the month. He currently sleeps for about 20 hours a day, only stirring to feed, mostly overnight. Jack seems to be coping reasonably well with the new arrival. The current baby boom also involves my step-bro Kris, whose significant other Terri is incubating a sibling for Charlie. I think she's just over 20 weeks now. Mum and Gogo will have five grandchildren to buy Christmas presents for, which will probably bankrupt them as they are so intent on spoiling them.
I now have one less room to play in as Jen's nesting instincts have prompted her to take over the room I had earmarked for a study and fill it with a change-table, bassinet (sp?), lots of baby clothes, nappies, lotions and potions, and toys. We already have a car seat and stroller (thanks to mum and Gordon who started spoiling the boy while he was still 20 weeks pre-natal). So all we actually need is a baby, which I am relying on Jen to provide in the next six or seven weeks or so.
My golfing is as inconsistent as ever, with my last two rounds being a 96 and then a 124, but the 96 did have 4 pars and a birdie. It's a shame I was so crap at the other holes. Simon, Damian (another A&E doc, from Liverpool) and I had a trip down to the Gold Coast to play on a proper course which unfortunately had water hazards at 14 of the holes, so that was lost-ball-tastic as far as I was concerned. At least better than the game I had with Ryan in Jakarta, where we had to abandon midway due to running out of balls.
